Concerts on the Square

Last Wednesday was the first Concerts on the Square. The Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra performs a free concert on the Capitol steps every Wednesday night for about 7 weeks during the summer. We were all very excited for this event. Nate and I have been going to these concerts long before we had kids and last summer we had taken both Jordan and Maya and all had a great time.

Maya found a perfect seat to enjoy her snack.

Since it was 90 degrees out and very very humid (even at 7 PM at night!) Mike and Mara took turns cooling Jordan off with the little fan he had packed in his backpack. Smart thinking, Jordan!

While the guys were off searching for ice cream during intermission, Maya took the opportunity to show Mara her nail polish.

And do some yoga for us.

After Nate returned with the ice cream, we found out very quickly that we had to take turns getting spoonfuls of ice cream otherwise the kids would have eaten half of it and the other half would have ended up on their clothes. Even with taking turns, I think the ice cream was gone in less than 3 minutes.

Even though the kids were very well behaved, they sometimes grow a little bored of just sitting and listening to classical music after awhile, so we always pack lots of books, stickers, small toys, etc to keep them busy. Here they are enjoying a new Sesame Street book - Maya looks particularly captivated.

Here is a picture of Jordan and Maya doing a little dancing at the end of the concert. Soon after that we turned around and saw that Maya had sat herself down with another family and was proceeding to take off her sandals and make herself comfortable. Why does that not surprise me?
